The eternal spring

Demeter, whose name is often associated with the meaning "mother earth", is the archetype of the bond between mother and daughter. The Goddess conceived Persephone who, as a young girl, disappeared. After wandering for days, Demeter, in the grip of anger and despair of the loss, tore his green mantle and scattered the remains in the grass. Flowers and herbs withered and, for the first time, autumn arrived. The earth could hear Demeter’s laughter again only when her daughter Persephone was returned to her: at that moment the spring returned.
